Numa Salzburg Vogelweider

The room was clean and modern, and the decor was just right. They'd thought of the little things too, with a minibar, breakfast and coffee. It's about 15 minutes from both the train station and the center of Salzburg. We'd definitely consider another Numa on our next trip. Great stay at this non-reception hotel.

There's a washing machine and dryer in the basement, along with extra supplies, towels and bedding if you need a restock. The rooms are a good size, very clean, and have a large bathroom with shampoo and other basics. Tea, coffee and sugar are in the room. The hotel has no reception. You get a travel pass for free public transport while staying there. If you don't have that pass, a 24-hour ticket costs 5-2 euros and can be bought at the bus stand. From the airport, bus number 2 stops about 200 yards from the hotel. It's a flat 15-20 minute walk to the river. Across the road is Fuxn, a great traditional Austrian restaurant, though it's busy so booking is best. I'd also recommend the Hallstatt trip, and taking the 151 bus up to the TV mast for brilliant views.

The rooms weren't properly cleaned, the towels were dirty, and water hadn't been replenished. Even small issues became major hassles because there was nobody on-site to talk to. There was no reception desk or staff member around to answer questions, sort things out or give basic guidance. Check-in was a disaster too. We waited hours for a response, and with seven rooms in our group booking, the whole trip became stressful instead of enjoyable. The customer service was shocking and the property made our time in Salzburg much less pleasant than it should have been. We spent valuable holiday time dealing with avoidable problems and poor management. I'd never stay here again or recommend it. Travelers should know what they're signing up for before booking.

The laundry room downstairs, with extra essentials available, was a great idea. We could look after our own room without daily housekeeping, which suited us. We stayed a week and would happily return. The accommodation was clean and warm, with a very comfortable bed, though our pillows were too soft. The shower had steady hot water and good pressure. The little kitchenette was enough for breakfast, drinks and the odd snack. It's an easy place to find, near a supermarket and on a bus route. The walk to Salzburg's old city takes around 15-20 minutes and is all flat. There's really nothing to dislike.
