Bauernhof Chalet Hinterweidinggut

We were staying at Lerchs Landhotel, not here, but walked over during our hike. The setting is beautifully secluded and so peaceful, with a real sense of being on your own. Kids can go see the cows in the adjacent cowshed. I wanted to leave a review because I found both the location and the view absolutely stunning.

If rustic decor is your thing, you’ll love this place. It’s wonderfully quiet and private, with a great view of St. Veit. There are even cattle living with you on the small alpine pasture. The place is rented through Landhotel Lerch, so you can also use the hotel’s amenities.

The chalet is a great place to get away from the bustle and enjoy nature. Schwarzach and St. Johann are close enough to reach easily by car, and in good weather you can relax outside. There’s a TV in every bedroom as well as one in the common room, and the kitchen is well equipped. Everything else was great too, and we’d come back. We did have a serious booking issue: after two days, the hotel called and said they’d double-booked the chalet and wanted us to move to a room at the parent hotel. We said no, especially as we had our dog with us. They then put more pressure on us, saying they’d have to cancel the other guests’ booking and asking whether we’d accept an upgrade with free half board. That part wasn’t pleasant.

We enjoyed our stay and celebrated New Year’s in this clean, well-kept cabin above Schwarzach, right by a large meadow. There are two bathrooms plus a separate toilet, and downstairs by the parking area there’s a ski boot warmer. The three double bedrooms have plenty of room for clothes and luggage. In the kitchen, there’s a large fridge-freezer, dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker and dining space. The spacious common room seats at least eight, with a sofa, TV and a sideboard for games and supplies. The crockery is a little sparse, so the dishwasher can end up running half full.
