Hotel Pension Lumes - Self Check-In

The location is superb for tourists, but the state of this old hotel, despite its 4-star rating, is questionable. It feels more like a 3-star place. The furnishings are really old, there’s a strong unpleasant smell, and the cleanliness was below par, though tolerable. The shower unit was clogged with hair, but they cleared it quickly when I asked. The mattress wasn’t great, but acceptable.

The rooms are basic and had a funny smell. We got the key for one room straight away, but reaching anyone about the other room took more than an hour. They had provided the wrong code, and the help line wasn’t answering. Altogether we lost 1h30 trying to get the key. If there’s an issue with an incorrectly provided digital key, it’s very hard to contact the emergency line. I’d advise booking a room in a regular hotel for better service and probably nicer rooms.

The location is amazing, but the rest could be much better. There’s no staff around except when someone comes to clean. The rooms and furniture are old, everything feels cheap, and the air is dry with a strong, unpleasant smell. You get used to it, but at this price I expected more comfort. It doesn’t feel like what you’d expect from a 4-star hotel.

The self check-in worked well, and the kitchen had a great selection of teas, which we especially appreciated as tea lovers. I just wish the cups were bigger. The place was clean and neat, with a perfect location right downtown, though it’s a bit dated.
