Alte Schmiede - das kleine Hotel

We ordered a burger while eating there on holiday, and the beef came very raw. They offered no refund, just one single “snaps”. The food was overpriced, the customer service was very bad, and I can’t recommend the place at all.

The warm welcome is why we keep returning to "Die Alte Schmiede" as a family. The Austrian family who run it treat us like family friends, not just customers. There’s usually time for a chat and a joke, and the place feels cozy and family friendly. Prices are another reason we come back. The rooms are sturdy, spacious, and comfortable, with genuine Austrian style and no flashiness. There are no dust bunnies in the corners. My small gripe is that the kitchen drawers could use more cutlery. Given the excellent restaurant atmosphere and service, butter knives might be more useful than steak knives, but it’s a trivial issue. The food is customary Austrian cuisine, plentiful and sometimes massive. The Spare Ribs at "Die Alte Schmiede" are second to none. Restaurant service can be slow at peak times, but it’s never been careless. The landlord’s ski and boot setup is fantastic. Boots get dried with hot air every night, so it’s bliss to put on warm, dry ones in the morning, especially if you’ve ever had to wear half-soggy boots. Once our room thermostat had a problem, and it was fixed within a day of us reporting it. We couldn’t have expected better. Another time, snow chaos at Munich delayed us by 10 hours. We called in the afternoon, and the family waited for us with 3 hot dishes when we arrived, long after the restaurant’s normal opening time. We’ve never had service like that elsewhere. In 2012, we spent Christmas there. On December 24, the family visited all the guests with incense, good cheer, jolly Christmas greetings, and a small gift. It was a lovely surprise, and we felt like part of the family. Will we come again? A big resounding YES. The warmth from the landlord and -lady is a big part of why. Their motto fits perfectly: "Wo Die Gaste zu freunde werden", or in English, "Where the guests become friends".

An easy-to-reach little hotel with great value for money. Parking is free and on site, and the staff were very attentive. The Wi-Fi was impressively fast, faster than what you often get in 5***** hotels.

I stayed for a week and had a very good time. The hotel is comfortable and nice, close to the center and a bus stop. A big thank you to Manuela and her family, they’re lovely! My vacation at the Alte Schmiede was really good. Thanks to the Kossler family!
