Best Western Am Walserberg

I only stopped here as a bit of a last-minute option, and it turned into one of the best parts of my trip. The staff were so accommodating, especially Jakub and Evgenia at reception, who made everything easy and friendly. There’s a free doll museum, a robot server, and a jacuzzi and sauna with mountain views. The place has loads of Austrian charm. I’d happily recommend it.

The room was spacious, modern and clean, with good beds, and there’s a garden rooftop terrace too. The woman at reception was incredibly friendly. We were confused by the missing hotel logo outside, then learned it had become a Best Western two months earlier. It’s right by the highway at a border parking area, which is handy but also means a lot of people coming and going: the lobby is the entrance to the Shell shop, McDonald's, bistro and restaurant. There was no noise inside, though. Parking is in a public lot with CCTV, and the food is much like what you get at other roadside restaurants. It’s a decent place for a night on the road, but the desk isn’t staffed later at night.

The room was clean and comfortable, which was a welcome start to a long drive with uncertain standards. My husband and I booked quickly while driving back to Italy after a day in Austria. We’d accidentally booked for one person instead of two, and also thought we’d paid part online when we hadn’t. The front desk woman was patient and friendly through all the confusion, even though we weren’t at our best. I especially want to thank her.

We were left out on the road with my sick daughter after the hotel was overbooked. The staff were very unfriendly and offered no alternative, even though we had an email confirmation from the hotel for our third-party booking. I’m usually pretty mild, but at the very least they could have apologized or found another option. No more Worst Western.
