Comfort Inn & Suites Sombrero

The location was a real plus, convenient for places of interest and just a short bus trip into the city. For the price, though, I expected more. My standard double was beside Main North Road, where constant trucks and souped-up cars made so much noise that I struggled to sleep even with earplugs. Inside, the room felt old and musty. The carpet was stained and badly needed replacing. There were cobwebs, a large spider by the bed, and dust around the windows. Scrunched tissue covered old electrical cabling in some exposed brickwork. The microwave, toaster, jug, plates and cutlery were useful, but there was no sink, so I had to fill the jug and wash dishes at the bathroom vanity. Not practical. I knew they were full and my stay was short, so I didn’t bring these things up with the staff, who were very friendly. If I’d been there longer, I might have asked to move rooms or discussed refund options.

A comfortable, clean king room and decent value for a three-star motel. I asked for somewhere quiet and slept very well, though rooms facing the main road would probably be noisy. The pool needed cleaning and had a lot of bugs gathering around it. Staff were looking into getting it cleaned.

The room was dirty: the bedhead was filthy, the light didn’t work, there was no hot water, and the cutlery had been used and put back without washing. The pool was slimy and disgusting, the gardens were poor, and the concrete was broken on the way up to the room. The location was noisy, with no sound barrier beneath the doors. The restaurant staff out back were smoking and partying until 3 a.m., without regard for guests. The gates close at night, but nobody tells you when you check in. Don’t leave your key card in your car if you take an Uber, or you may not get back in. There was no one available to check me in. I know finding good staff can be difficult, but being courteous and explaining things properly, especially the gate, shouldn’t be.

There were some good points: the room was a good size, the air conditioning was amazing, the apartment was stocked, and the location was great. But the pool was too cold even on a 42-degree day, there were flies and mozzies in the room, and the shower was unusable.
