Plaza Hotel

The room was above the bins and smoking area, and the furniture was old and chipped. The mirror was so high I couldn’t use it. Floors were uneven and there was visible water damage. The lift was scary, and the man at the front desk didn’t seem to know much. I asked if there was a better room and was told no. Then a follow up email claimed we’d been offered a different room. Liars. We left immediately, paid for another hotel, and they refused to refund any money. It totally wrecked our adelaide town experience. Disgusting and shocking. This doesn’t even deserve 1 star and should be condemned. RUN.

The other guests were friendly and easy to get along with, and once the nighttime noise stopped, the place was peaceful. Music boomed from outside until around 1 or 2 am every night, so earplugs are a good idea. The staff were down to earth, friendly, and helpful, and you can buy food nearby and cook it on site. For the money, it was much better than plenty of other motels I've stayed in. A good place to stay while in Adelaide.

We picked it for the central Adelaide location, and the front desk staff were welcoming and really friendly. The noise wasn't ideal, though we knew there were clubs and pubs on the same street. The housekeeping lady was a major problem. She was rude and intrusive, and one time let herself into our room while I was changing. Those interactions made us uncomfortable.

The nearby venues got loud around 9 pm, and the booming went on throughout my stay. Friday and Saturday were intolerable, with the noise shaking the whole building. Even earplugs couldn't stop the vibrations, and it was distressing. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone looking for a restful stay. At first I felt welcome, and the night staff were kind. My room was large and had an old fashioned style, but the walls were dirty with ingrained spit marks. I chose the double bed in the middle, and it was so hard it hurt my back. The cabinet in the bathroom was rusted underneath and scarred with cigarette burns, and the toilet roll holder was broken. The linen looked clean but smelled of smoke. When I looked closer, the large blanket was caked with food and sticky smears, and the bed cover had dried blood stains. All the beds had a deeply ingrained cigarette stench.
