Albany Waves

The apartment worked well for our family or friends group, with a decent-sized living area, a fully equipped kitchenette, and the beach only a five-minute walk away. The owner was responsive and helpful throughout, and the facilities and check-in service were excellent. The only drawback during our hot summer stay was that the small bedrooms had no air conditioning.

After our two-night stay at Albany Waves, Bronwyn, the caretaker or owner, took another $150 from our account ten days later without telling us or getting permission. We had agreed to the $1100 price. When I called, she said it was for cleaning because the cleaner needed two extra hours after we left a mess. She couldn’t explain what the mess was, only that the house wasn’t in the condition it had been provided in. We’d used the kitchen and beds, and hadn’t made the beds, but we washed the dishes, emptied the kitchen bin, wiped the bench, mopped the bathroom, and picked up every bit of rubbish from the floor before leaving. We’ve stayed in many Airbnbs and never been charged extra for basic things like that. She said she had photos, and at first said she’d send them, but then said the terms and conditions didn’t require her to provide proof. I asked several times by message and phone, but she stopped replying. That felt very unprofessional and is why I’m posting this review. If you stay there, take a video of the property’s condition for your records so she can’t rip you off.

Lyn was genuinely accommodating and checked that we were all okay throughout our stay. We were a big family group, with a four-month-old, a one-year-old, a four-year-old, and an 86-year-old with Parkinson’s who is mostly wheelchair-bound, and we were lucky to have the Driftwood house. The house was fantastic, the location was great, and the price was affordable for a large family. We all had a great time and were glad we booked here.

Bronwyn was warm and helpful, which made the stay feel special. Albany Waves’ self-contained unit is just steps from the beach, stylish and beautifully designed, with modern comforts. It was spotless, well equipped, and a cosy place to relax by the coast.
