Comfort Inn Sovereign Hill

The beds were comfortable and the view was nice, but the historic feel we expected wasn’t really there. We’d choose a hotel in town next time and travel to the museum. We hadn’t realised we’d be sharing the hotel with several school groups, and there was no warning at booking. We were told children would be on the grass outside our room until 8pm at the latest and weren’t allowed near the buildings, but sound still carried into our room. School groups were still passing our window and door loudly every hour after 11pm, like they might on camp. If you want a relaxing stay, a place in town may suit better. It does sound like an amazing, fun camp for the kids and school groups lucky enough to go.

The fridge kept running through the night, which was a bit annoying. Still, the room was clean and tidy for our three-night stay, and it was easy to get to Sovereign Hill. Having complimentary tea, coffee and milk was nice too.

Being able to stay on the grounds of a premium museum park is a great convenience and experience. I wish the rooms and their amenities would be upgraded. One note: the microwave makes it seem like cooking in the room is allowed, but don’t do it. The smoke alarms are extremely sensitive, and even making toast could set them off. That triggers a fire brigade callout, which the hotel will insist you pay for. It happened to friends who stayed at the property with us.

Ariel at the front desk was lovely and made check-in feel welcoming and easy. My partner and I really enjoyed our stay at the Sovereign Hill Hotel. The room was comfortable and clean, with complimentary tea, coffee and hot chocolate. We’ll definitely be back.
