Don Pancho by the Beach

The resort is older, but it’s kept in good shape. I was surprised they don’t have turtle-friendly lighting, given where it is. Other beach hotels turn their lights off, while ours stayed brightly lit all night. The ocean-view studio sits right above the beach and has a little kitchenette. The pool area also has lovely day beds and tables, a nice spot to relax after the beach.

The sea view was lovely, and hearing the waves at night made the one-night visit worthwhile. It was clean, the bed included. Some furnishings can get mould on them because of the location, including the curtains and lampshade. The bathroom was still clean, the shower was great, and easy beach access makes this somewhere I’d book again.

The women on staff were lovely and the service was good, but that was the only upside. We paid nearly $600 for two nights, and the view didn’t come close to making the cost worthwhile. The air-conditioning remote was broken, and the whole place smelled bad. Sewage odour came from the shower, the taps, and outside the rooms. It was a very disappointing stay, and I won’t be returning to Don Pencho by the Beach for a holiday.

Samantha at reception was a highlight, friendly, helpful, and efficient from arrival through the rest of our stay. Our beachside apartment had a private balcony and views to die for, with really easy access to the beach. It came with everything we needed, including a full kitchen, washing machine, and dryer. The bed was so comfortable I had one of the best sleeps I’ve had in ages. Don Pancho felt welcoming and relaxing, and gave us more than we expected. We’ll be back.
