Portsea Place

We had trouble getting a good night's sleep. People passing by noisily woke us several times the night before our last, then the smoke alarm started beeping at 3.00am on the final night. The shower also wasn’t clean, with an unacceptable amount of mould that really needs attention. The owner was friendly but missed a couple of important things I’d mentioned to help make our stay great. The location was great, the bed was comfy, and the renovation was nicely done. Love Hobart!

The location was convenient, with the ward at the end of the street and an easy walk to markets and food. The room itself was simple, with a bed and couch, and it was comfortable, but it looked nothing like the pictures online. I think we got a C grade room that wasn’t shown. There were no privacy blinds, so with the blind up anyone on the street could see straight in. For three nights we got just one towel each and a small bottle of body wash. The rooms weren’t maintained during our stay, and a few more towels and travel-size supplies would have helped. The tea bags came loose in a packet, which felt a bit yuck since I don’t know how long they’d been there or who had touched them. Individually wrapped ones would be better. There wasn’t really anywhere to unpack and set up for a longer stay.

A really spacious and quiet room, just right for a good night's sleep. It had its own kitchenette, fridge, shower and TV. The location worked well for me, with all the eateries in the city centre, some nice cafes on the other side, and a chemist nearby. A wonderful spot for a short stay. I’ll definitely come back next time I’m in town.

For the price, this was good value for our two nights in Hobart, with Salamanca markets and everything else in walking distance. It’s no-frills, but the location is handy. If your apartment is on the top floor, be ready to climb a few flights of stairs. The wifi was rubbish, under 1mb download speed for us. It might actually be slower than our dial-up from 20years ago!
