Cairns Rainforest Retreat

The room wasn’t cleaned until our last day, and we couldn’t use it for a large part of that day. Before then, we contacted the host several times about the state of the place but got no reply until halfway through our stay. Communication was poor when we needed help. On arrival, there was hair on the bed, in the bathtub, and throughout the bathroom. The toilet was extremely dirty, and there was a huge amount of dust and dead insects under the bed. Hygiene is the most important part of a stay for me, and this was nowhere near an acceptable standard. The owner said we’d get a partial refund, and Booking.com confirmed it, but 1.5 years later we still haven’t received anything. When we call, they recognize our number and hang up right away. They read messages but don’t respond. I’ve rarely dealt with an owner who showed so little care about hygiene or responsibility. Don’t stay here. At this price, you’re taking a serious risk.

We really enjoyed our stay. It’s a privately owned resort with just 2 bungalows/rooms, a nice pool and an outdoor kitchen. The hostess was friendly and helpful, and we loved having privacy surrounded by nature.

We spent 2 nights here and couldn’t have asked for a better place near Cairns. You’re tucked into the forest with lots of privacy, and the swimming pool is stunning, just a few steps from the room. The room was lovely, with both a shower and a bath. The hosts were so friendly and welcoming, they made us feel right at home.

The rainforest sounds at night were soothing, and we liked being able to cook our own food on the pool BBQ. The room was charming and romantic, in a small hotel with only 2 rooms. But for what we paid, we expected a bit more. The rooms seemed to be left open after cleaning, so there were bugs inside when we arrived. There also needs to be some kind of privacy blind or curtain, since you can see from one room into the other. At check-in, we got almost no information about the cooking setup, lock code, wifi, or local things. It seemed the owner expected the other couple staying there to explain it all. We travel to get away from the hassles at home, so it wasn’t welcome when the owner immediately launched into her political views at check-in. We’d left food for dinner in the outside fridge, but the owner removed it. They eventually found it in her own fridge, but the whole situation just wasn’t on. It’s a charming but odd place in the suburbs of Cairns.
