Gums Anchorage Apartments

The location and views were beautiful, and the pool was great. The rooms were okay, but the service was absolutely terrible. We paid too much to have every move controlled. We had storage on top of the car, so couldn't fit in the garage, and had two apartments. We parked in front of our garage doors, with plenty of room for cars to get through, even a truck, but got in trouble and told to park on the street. The 'parking police' sent us messages, and we ended up removing the roof storage so we could use the garage. Then we were told to turn the lights off while we were still in there and weren't even checking out that day. As we packed up, an old man told us to move, even though we'd only moved out to put the pod on the roof of the car and there was plenty of room to pass. If you want to have fun and enjoy a holiday, go somewhere else.

The location is wonderful, and the man who runs the place was incredibly sweet, helpful, and gave great customer service. But the woman was snappy and seemed to want us out of her face, as if we were a problem. That was our first impression, and the room itself was a nightmare. All four of us woke up with headaches and runny noses and wanted to get out in a hurry. The rooms felt uninviting, dirty, and full of dust. Not one table had been wiped down, the couches were covered in dirt, and the outside table was disgusting. We took a picture frame down because it scared our kids, and found chocolate wrappers stashed behind it. In the morning, my husband's shower wouldn't turn off, so we had to listen to it drip while we packed. After that terrible visit, I thought I'd move on and never come back. Then the apartment asked us for more money because they said they'd given us too big a room with two extra beds we didn't use. We asked for what we'd paid for, and they chose to give us an extra room. That's not our fault. Do better.

The location was great, and our out of hours check-in had been arranged in advance without any problems. We stayed two nights with friends, but we were all disappointed by how unclean the room was. It was dusty, there was mould in the bathrooms behind the door, on the walls and in the grout, and there was rat poo in the garage. The room smelled unclean as well. The furnishings were old and worn, which wouldn't have bothered me if the room and bathrooms had been clean. Cleanliness is the bare minimum I expect when I pay to stay somewhere. Sorry to the managers, but this needs to improve. I wouldn't stay here again.

The beach is right across the road, and the resort style pool is gorgeous. The gardens and grounds are beautifully kept, a credit to the gardener, and the room is spacious with modern kitchen and bathrooms. It doesn't break the budget either. We found this hidden gem and are now hooked. What a fantastic holiday spot. We've just got home and are already booking our next stay so we don't miss out. See you soon. 🙂
