We rode into Benalla as a group of 12 and stopped overnight while exploring the region’s silo art. Rose City Motor Inn was a great choice. Monto and her husband made us feel welcome from the start, checked that we’d settled in and asked if we needed anything to be more comfortable. The place was clean and relaxed, and it suited riders well. The pool had room for 12 to 15 adults to hang out together, the BBQ area worked perfectly for a group evening, and the shops were an easy walk away. The petrol station was just a 30 second ride. Last month, we had to cancel a booking after the free cancellation period because of extreme bush fires, and they were understanding about it. That kindness and flexibility mean a lot. It’s a lovely small family business, and I can’t recommend them enough. Give them a chance to look after you if you’re in Benalla.

The rooms were clean and tidy, with a huge smart TV and a good-sized shower. It was a good experience overall. If you’re after a five-star luxury hotel, this isn’t it. But for a quiet, comfortable bed for the night at a good price, it’s worth a try. The yard and outdoor features could use some attention, though we didn’t use them. Hope this helps other travellers.

The room was inexpensive, but it wasn’t clean or well maintained. The kettle looked muddy inside and the milk they provided was spoiled. When I asked reception for water to boil for tea, they told me to use the bathroom sink tap. That felt unhygienic and unacceptable. It seemed cheap, but not neat, and I wouldn’t recommend it if basic cleanliness and comfort matter to you.

One of Benalla’s oldest motels. The inside of the rooms is better than the exterior, which looks very tired. It’s a quiet place.

We arrived in town late and Rose City Motor Inn found us their last available room. The owners kindly opened the office to meet us, which was a relief since we were exhausted and getting desperate for a room. The beds were clean and comfortable, and we had what we needed for a cuppa and more: kettle, toaster, mugs, plates, microwave, fridge, iron and ironing board. They made our short stay feel warm and comfortable. We’d stay again in a heartbeat. Many thanks!
