Discovery Parks - Kalgoorlie Goldfields

The room and park amenities were great for a one-night stay in one of the small single dongas, with the shared toilet and shower block outside. The old box air con on the wall was the one problem. It rattled like a truck engine against my wall. Please replace these, people need somewhere quiet to sleep with air con in the summer heat. 😃

Our tent fit perfectly on the grass at a powered site, and the location was central. The facilities were good quality, with a fully stocked camp kitchen and a large block for showers, toilets and laundry.

The staff are this park's biggest asset. They were friendly and knew their stuff. On the couple of times we used the facilities, they were clean, and there was little disturbance from the mining staff accommodation. The park is a bit out of town, though, and we heard noise at night as well as planes from the airport. Twice we saw a non-paying guest wandering around looking for things to nick, but staff dealt with him promptly. There's vacant land behind the van park where most guests with vans stay. That caused real problems, with locals camping, drinking and generally behaving antisocially. Staff responded appropriately when we reported it, and the police moved those people on. None of that was the staff's fault.

A special mention to Tony, who was always ready to lend a hand, and Nola, the cleaning lady. She was friendly, spoke politely with residents and visitors, and always seemed happy. She made people feel welcome. The park itself is excellent and in a good spot outside town, away from the hustle and bustle.
