We never got to see the rooms, so I can't speak to them. The exterior and reception looked well below standard, and our interaction with the manager was enough that I wouldn't recommend the motel. We'd read some positive reviews and liked the riverside location, away from the highway but close to town. Since the outside looked run down when we arrived, we asked to view the room before checking in and compare it with the photos. The manager refused, then became hostile and rude, accusing us of possibly breaking things or tracking mud inside. We explained we only wanted to check the room, but he deleted our reservation anyway. That left us stranded in Bourke at 4:30 pm after a long day driving. Luckily, another place helped us find excellent accommodation even though it was fully booked.

The rustic look of this motel, right by the lovely Darling river, made for a nice stop while we were exploring outback NSW. The owner was friendly, and a couple of smoochy cats added to the fun. We only stayed one night, but I'd definitely come back.

After a long day driving, the clean, spacious room and comfortable bed were a welcome relief. Everything seemed well maintained, and the staff were friendly and genuinely helpful. The property also felt safe and secure. It's a peaceful outback spot, yet still close to town conveniences. I was pleasantly surprised by how welcoming and comfortable the Riverside Motel in Bourke was. I'd happily stay again and recommend it to anyone travelling through the outback.

The property and buildings have the potential to be something grand, though the room felt a bit dated, with old-time charm. It had air conditioning, and the hosts were pleasant. We arrived to adorable puppies, which was a cute welcome. There were only two guest parties at the hotel in the lead-up to Christmas, and summer isn't the best time for the outback. The gates were locked overnight, so you needed your key to get in or out on foot or by car. For dinner, the closest options were Port of Bourke hotel, which wasn't bad, or Chinese. I'd avoid the Chinese place, it feels stuck in the 80s.

It's sad to see how run down the whole property has become, especially knowing Fred Hollows used to stay there. We stayed years ago and it was amazing, with lovely gardens and spotless rooms. Such a disappointment now.
