Astoria Retreat B&B

My partner and I left without staying the night, even though we’d paid in advance. The whole process made us feel uneasy, and we’ve never had this kind of experience at similar places. They asked for credit card details on a guest declaration form despite our booking.com payment, which seemed unnecessary for such an informal setup. They did request photo ID and guest details as part of their policies, which I understand. When I called to ask about the card request, Michael, the owner, was extremely rude and brushed it off as “their” rules. The elderly couple hosting us also seemed unwelcoming when we arrived. The booking.com listing was misleading too: Astoria Bed and Breakfast turned out to be an extra bedroom from an ensuite, not what we expected. I wouldn’t recommend staying here if you want a welcoming or professional experience.

The gardens are beautiful, and check-in was easy. Michael and Natalie were friendly, and the place was lovely and very clean. Thanks for making my stay enjoyable. I’d recommend staying here.

I slept really well in this quiet spot. The room was large, the bathroom was large too, and everything was very clean.

I stayed at Astoria from Saturday to Tursday, and found it pleasant. The bed was comfy, security was tight and digital, and there was continental breakfast every morning. The kitchen is shared and has plenty of space for what you pay; towels were changed daily. It’s close to Kingsway sports complex, and an easy drive to the shopping spots we were aiming for. Natalie and Michael were always responsive, so I’ll definitely return. There’s a clear no-alcohol-in-rooms rule, so I suspect the last negative reviewer may have been drinking, and that the complaint was unwarranted.
