myOZexp Aberdeen Lodge - Hostel

The rooms have a fridge, which is cool, but they aren’t clean and the pillows are super thin. The kitchen is so dirty and oily it’s a shame. There are so few utensils and pieces of cutlery that it’s hard to find a fork at 5AM. I’ve never left a review before, but a kitchen this poorly kept is unacceptable even in a hostel or whatever this is. It’s a very cheap stay money-wise, but it’s even cheaper inside. Management needs to take this more seriously. It feels like they forgot about the place and left it to itself. I haven’t even started ranting about there being only 1 toilet per gender + 1 for shared.

Check-in was a nightmare, disorganized and frustrating. Roxanne, the manager, was completely unhelpful and dismissive, and there was basically no staff around when I needed help. It felt like no one cared about guests or the condition of the place. This is by far the worst hostel I’ve ever stayed in, and I genuinely regret booking here. The place was absolutely disgusting and seemed completely neglected and unhygienic. There were rats in the kitchen, flies everywhere, visible mold and mouse traps sitting out in the open. The rooms were filthy and untidy, and the bedsheets smelled like they hadn’t been properly cleaned. I couldn’t rest properly in a place that’s supposed to provide basic comfort. The bed was so uncomfortable it caused back pain, and the pillow gave me neck pain. Avoid this hostel at all costs.

Really friendly, with a good atmosphere, and the kitchen has lots of equipment, so it’s easy to cook good meals. The hostel is in a perfect location!

I had a good experience here. It was a nice, comfortable place to stay, the hostel was clean and friendly, and the staff were helpful. I’d recommend it to other travelers.
