Avenue Hotel Canberra

That bed is heaven! I stayed in a one-bedroom apartment and honestly felt like I could live there. The lounge was roomy and comfortable, and the kitchen had a full-size fridge/freezer and cooktop. The bathroom was clean and well equipped, and the toiletries smelled lovely. Room service brought a chicken schnitzel for dinner. It came quickly, hot and delicious. There are plenty of other food options just a short walk away. Parking is a real bonus, though getting around the spaces is tight in a bigger vehicle.

The spa suite was more like a self-contained apartment, and it suited my three-night Canberra trip perfectly. I wanted somewhere modern and fairly central, with a bath to relax in after sightseeing. The spa bath itself was wonderful, but when I turned it on after filling it, lots of black gunk came out of the jets. I reported it the next morning before heading out and was told it would be sorted. When I checked back that evening, staff said maintenance had inspected it and housekeeping had cleaned it. It was still dirty when I returned to the room. Reception apologised and moved me to an identical room, plus gave me a $20 restaurant voucher. It was still a hassle having to pack up and move.

Everyone we met at The Avenue Hotel Canberra was cheerful, professional, and friendly, and clearly wanted to help. A warm shout-out to the whole staff. You’re a credit to the hotel industry, and we’re grateful you made our stay so special.

The bathroom had long black hairs on the floor, and the ventilation didn’t work. The air conditioner was dirty and smelled unpleasant. The shampoo and conditioner were poor quality, too. In the room, there was no complimentary water, and we had to ask for basic things like toothbrushes. Even the welcome booklet was wrinkled and dirty, left on the bed. It all felt careless and unhygienic. We’d asked for a quiet room but got one facing the main street, and I barely slept the first night. There was no one at the entrance to welcome us or help with luggage when we arrived, or even offer water. After two nights, the cleanliness, service, and attention to detail were well below what I’d expect from a 4.5-5 star hotel.
