We didn’t go through with check-in and found another place. After asking to see the room, we went upstairs and found it filthy, with beds that looked like they’d already been slept in. A man who seemed extremely high woke up as we entered and stared at us, and we immediately felt unsafe. Before that, we’d already been put off by the atmosphere and the awful stench as soon as we walked in. Since we were early, we were told to leave our bags in the middle of the dining area while people came and went, so anyone could have done anything to them. This was the most disgusting hostel I’ve ever seen. I wouldn’t recommend it to young travellers or anyone wanting a safe place to stay. Don’t be tempted by the cheap price; spend your money somewhere more worthwhile.

In all my years of staying in hostels, around 50 places across 12 countries, I’ve never come across anything this disgusting. The fridges are unbearable, cleaning doesn’t seem to happen, and cockroaches thrive here. Avoid it at all costs.

I walked in, cried, and left. It was easily the most disgusting place I’ve ever seen, with real trap house vibes. I’m grateful the guy at reception refunded me. One of the women working there was very rude: when I asked if I might get my money back, she laughed at me and followed me all the way to reception still laughing. Don’t stay here, it’s not worth the money saved.

I cancelled and booked somewhere else within 10 minutes of arriving. The place smelled of weed, my room reeked of other people’s dirty clothes, and everything felt dirty. My white mattress was brown, and there wasn’t anywhere to hang out. The low price might look like a way to save money, but don’t book this place. I gave it two stars because they refunded me.

We checked out soon after arriving and moved to YHA Brisbane City because the place felt so uncomfortable and unsafe. Staff were reluctant at first, but eventually gave us a full refund. We’re sharing this for safety awareness. This was by far the worst hostel we’ve encountered, and we’d recommend spending your money elsewhere for peace of mind. As two young women travelling together, we felt uneasy about the area outside from the moment we arrived in the afternoon. The main building was old and visibly unclean, and the separate female-only building we were sent to was in just as poor condition. In the kitchen and common spaces there was cat food on the floor, dirty counters, cupboard doors falling off and no proper dining or communal area. The toilets had no sinks. Our small bedroom had unstable bed frames, stained mattresses and dusty bedding, with no lockers for our belongings. The food storage area was the worst: ants were all through the cupboards and storage spaces, and our food was infested and had to be thrown out.
