The only decent thing about our ibis budget stay was that the bed was reasonably comfortable. The room was tiny with nowhere for luggage except the bathroom, and all it had was a kettle and small TV. A toaster or microwave meant walking down very steep stairs to the communal kitchen. There's no elevator, so even going out for air would be hard for anyone who isn't very fit or has mobility issues. You can't open the window more than about half an inch, so the room gets no airflow. The split system barely worked either, giving neither warm nor cool air. The shower was barely lukewarm even with the hot tap fully on and no cold water. A room sign says to keep the bathroom door closed to stop shower steam setting off the smoke alarm. The small sink water got reasonably hot, so the shower temperature made no sense. The toilet's full flush didn't work, and the half flush barely did, so I had to flush three or four times to clear urine. Breakfast was in the communal kitchen and was just three spreads for toast and two cereals, all self serve. There was a pancake machine but no mix, and if there had been, you'd have had to make the pancakes yourself. This overpriced, run down place felt more like a backpackers than a motel. As a builder with 30 years experience, I don't think it meets current Australian building standards. Council should make them bring it up to code or close it. I wouldn't stay again or recommend it to anyone, and I'm surprised they're allowed to operate.
