Broken Head Holiday Park

We loved this little haven. The campsite plots were generous and had lovely soft grass, and the staff at reception were kind and accommodating. Since we had a small child, they gave us fob access to a family shower room, which was great. We used the laundry twice, and it was very reasonably priced. Detergent was available for a dollar in the little shop. The facilities were really well maintained, always clean and stocked with toilet paper and soap. Thank you!

The location is probably what saves the park from poor reviews, but it didn’t impress us. We were in the Deluxe King Beach Shack for our 30th anniversary, and the pictures showed a different, more spacious cabin, which felt misleading. The only deluxe thing was the king-sized bed, made from two single mattresses joined together. It was reasonably comfortable, but the hard seam down the middle wasn’t deluxe. The price didn’t feel worth it. The room was dirty when we arrived, so we had to clean it ourselves. There was dust and dirt on top of the microwave, sand inside the only clothes cupboard, and sand all over the floor. There was no broom or dustpan and brush, so we were stuck with sand on our feet. We hadn’t been to the beach before arriving or during our stay, so it didn’t come from us. The sink cabinet was damaged and the small couch had a stain. Aircon worked well, but that’s the only reason for the one star. Reception service when we arrived was great. We were asked to sign a contract promising to clean the room before checkout and not sublet it, lol. We wouldn’t recommend the place based on these issues. Sorry, we’re not dazzled just by the location.

Waking up to the ocean is lovely, and there’s lots to do if you feel like it: walk the tracks, surf, or just relax on the beach. Broken Head beach is a short stroll away, with peaceful rainforest all around. It’s a perfect getaway.

The setting is lovely, right by a national park and reserve, with a pretty beach and Byron and Lennox nearby. We’ve only stayed at the campground in our camper van, but the modern amenities have been kept in good shape by the staff. The camping prices feel very fair for what you get. Other campgrounds could take a cue from them, since some NRMA places charge $100 a night for old amenities.
