At night it was peaceful, and I spent a while outside enjoying the clear, starry sky. We stayed for three days back in 2015 with my wife and our border collie. Check-in with Chuck was easy, and he was friendly. He even kept an eye on our dog while we went touring, since he was working in his shed a couple of hundred metres away. The rustic, quaint building had all the facilities we needed, including a secure spot for our dog while we were out. Although it was near the hosts' house and workshop, the cottage area was fenced off, and we didn't see or hear anyone unless we went looking. It's on the Highway, but that didn't disturb the quiet nights. If old-school, rustic accommodation is what you're after, give it a go.

The bed was a joke. I'm above average height, and it was too small. The first night I slept sitting up on the lounge. The next night I piled all the blankets I could find on the mattress and slept on top, which helped a little, but still wasn't good. There was so much stuff everywhere that we had to find a surface and fill it when we arrived for our three-night stay in early NOV. 23. We were greeted with an abrupt “you're early,” which wasn't a good start. For the price of this cabin, better value and accommodation could be found elsewhere. NOT SO QUAINT!!!

The bed was the worst I've ever slept on, and there was no Internet. The Cottage is too close to the Owners' house for privacy, and the workshop nearby brought vehicles, noise, and loud music at all hours. On top of that, it's too close to the Highway, with truck noise 24 hours a day. There's no value for money here. Stay in Broken Hill, or book somewhere else. To repeat, it's not quaint, it's horrible. This is a brutally honest review. Take it or leave it. UPDATE: Despite the deluded ‘Owners’ insane claim, I most definitely DID stay there. Do yourself a favour and find somewhere else!

We loved walking around the property at sunrise and picking our own oranges and mandarins. The landscape was beautiful, with lots of space and privacy, and we had a fire every night, which was great for star gazing. The accommodation at gum paddock country cottage was fantastic, and the hosts were very accommodating. We had the best time.
