We stayed in the smaller studio at The Blisshouse, which has at least two separate tenancies, the other being a larger penthouse. Privacy was limited: the penthouse balcony looks straight into the studio courtyard and main bedroom, and the studio curtains don’t fully screen the view. Someone on the balcony could see directly into where we slept. The location is decent, opposite the dog beach, but it’s next to a busy bar with noise and early morning rubbish collection. We also got a barrage of emails and texts telling us to leave the place clean, wash dishes and take rubbish out to avoid extra cleaning charges. It kept us on edge about leaving anything out of place and made it hard to relax. Being held to ransom like that didn’t make for a relaxing holiday. They withdrew a $500 bond from our account, and it took a month to get it back.

With 14 of us in the complex, the setup worked perfectly. We could all eat and hang out together on the deck, while still having our own little spots to retreat to if it got too much. Bilongil beach is nearby, dog friendly, and the water is clean and clear. The place is far enough out from Byron to head into town or drive away from it quickly against the traffic. We loved it so much we’ve already booked for 2022. I’d definitely recommend the Bliss House for a holiday.

We didn’t have a good stay at Byron Blisshouse. It’s poorly maintained, with water leaking through a light fitting, no air con in two of the three bedrooms, no fans, and a broken washing machine and dryer. The kitchen wasn’t well equipped either. Avoid it if you’re after a relaxing holiday.

We’d pictured a quiet, relaxing week, but ended up leaving for a motel after five nights of our seven-night booking. The photos look impressive, but the place is divided into several tenancies, despite being listed on Air BNB as an “Entire House”. They’re very close together, so other guests can have a big effect on your stay. If you book downstairs, be aware there’s very little sound insulation and you’ll hear every footstep above. The house is right across a small road from the resort next door’s commercial kitchen. Each morning between 5:30-6am, a rubbish truck emptied its commercial-sized bin and then the kitchen deliveries arrived, including fresh beer kegs. During the day, empty bottles were poured into that bin from collection crates, which was quite noisy. The resort itself wasn’t overly loud, and all the live bands finished by 10pm. Parking nearby can be hard when it’s busy. The resort guests seemed respectful, but it’s a shame the house sits right by the commercial end of the kitchen facilities. Who’s staying in the other areas could make your visit better or worse.

We had a big group staying for a wedding and had a great time. The main drawbacks were noise from the bar and restaurant next door in the morning and late evening. Some shower gel or shampoo would’ve been handy. The pool’s very small and kind of pointless.
