Toreador Motel

After our car broke down in Coffs, the NRMA put us up here for a night. We had our small dog with us. The room was basic but clean, the bed comfy and the showers hot, just what we needed after the drama. The guest kitchen was a bonus. We could walk to the pub for dinner and to the coffee shop the next day while the car was being repaired, and the pleasant staff let us stay a little past check-out until it was done. I'd recommend it as a pit stop. Surprisingly, it wasn't very noisy, and it will be fabulous for these places once the bypass is completed.

We'd been in touch with the hotel just three weeks earlier with questions about our booking, and they answered each one. We never cancelled. After booking 12 months ahead and paying in full through booking.com 48 hours before arrival, we reached check-in and were told the hotel had cancelled our reservation. The receptionist blamed booking.com, though it was the hotel that cancelled it. With no rooms left during peak season, they sent us away and told us to seek a refund from booking.com. We were left without anywhere to stay for the weekend. Very disappointing, and the receptionist was no help.

For $175, this was a real disappointment. There were piles of dust on the floor, the floor itself was dirty and sticky, and it looked like nobody had cleaned under the beds for at least six months. The wall mounted hand soap holder was cracked and wouldn't dispense soap. The air conditioner smelled bad and was loud. The welcome was awful too, the woman didn't smile and offered no customer service. I won't stay here again or recommend it.

The guest kitchen was amazing, and it was an easy walk to the shops and restaurants. Our room felt modern and clean, with comfortable chairs.
