Cooktown Motel and Pams Place Hostel

The room and bathroom were clean, towels were provided, and the shower pressure was great. The receptionist was friendly at check-in, and the place was locked at night. But I wouldn't stay here again. It felt shabby and had a depressing atmosphere. The rooms were functional but small and close together, so neighbours were very audible at night. The bed was too soft and uncomfortable, and the only room light was a fluorescent one, with no bedside lights. The pool looked more like a jungle pond. Parking was available, though you could end up on the street if unlucky. Wifi was inconsistent and often connected without internet. For a typical low-budget motel, the price seemed about a third higher than I'd expect.

We loved Cooktown and your motel. The friendly attitude and great service made us feel like we'd known you for ages. I've clicked the stars, but I'd give you 1010. Regards, Stuart

The new managers are friendly and helpful. Cooktown's options are limited and usually expensive, so these basic rooms are good value and have what you need. There's also a camp kitchen and a saltwater pool on the property.

The rooms were basic, clean and good value, and the grounds and garden were well kept. Staff were friendly and went out of their way to help with our special needs. The camp kitchen behind reception is another plus, with a good range of equipment.
