Winston Cottage

That mildew smell was incredibly strong, and we barely slept because of it. We ended up leaving early in the morning after our one-night stay in May 2024. There were also cockroaches at the bottom of the basket where the bath towels were kept. :(

We stopped here on our way back to central Queensland with our puppy Eddie, and my wife and I wanted to stay another night almost straight away. Sadly, they were fully booked. The hosts were so welcoming and friendly to pets, and their border collies were a real highlight. The room, facilities, and location were all amazing. We haven’t tried breakfast yet, but after reading the other reviews, we can’t wait.

The kids loved watching movies on the sofa bed in the front room, and the pool was a refreshing, relaxing spot where they had fun in the water. Chris gave us a great introduction to the property and explained everything we might need to know about it and the area. Chris and Deb were lovely to chat with and easy to reach for small needs. Breakfast was generous, healthy, delicious, home-cooked, and served with a stunning view. Our two boys and my husband also got to meet your playful dog for the first time and picked up a few things from the experience. They learn fast. We stayed one night, which was a lovely break from routine and city bustle. Before leaving, I mentioned to Chris that the bedroom doors opened a few times during the night when the wind blew, so a proper lock would help with privacy. A small screen on the bathroom windows would be good too. We’d still recommend it to friends and colleagues who enjoy greenery, a pool, pets, friendly hosts, and a relaxed place to stay.

We had the Paris room, a cozy, welcoming space with its own lounge and a TV connected to Netflix. The bedroom was clean and had aircon, a mini fridge, and a little coffee machine. The bed and pillows were comfy too. The hosts were lovely, and their co-host collies greeted us with so much enthusiasm. Winston Cottage Bed & Breakfast is a lovely little escape.
