Daintree Peaks ECO Stays

We stayed one night at Greg’s property in October 2024. The lodge was clean, the breakfast was great, and Greg was a warm and welcoming host. The free in-room WiFi worked at a reasonable speed. Some facilities, including the fridge in our lodge, weren’t fully working because of damage from Cyclone Jasper. That was understandable since the area hadn’t fully recovered, and Greg did his best to make things comfortable. We highly recommend staying at his property when visiting the Daintree or Diwan area.

Greg is what makes the stay stand out: he’s warm, funny, a little whimsical, and clearly loves the Daintree. He runs the whole eco retreat himself, from looking after the property to cooking. Some reviews have been overly harsh without appreciating the effort involved in creating such a lovely experience in a remote, beautiful place. The chalets are spotless and air-conditioned, with a comfortable mix of character and convenience. There’s a private creek for a peaceful dip and a pool protected from mosquitos, so you can enjoy the rainforest atmosphere without getting bitten. Daintree Peaks ECO Stays is a little slice of rainforest paradise, with lush scenery and fresh air. If you want a distinctive rainforest retreat, it’s the place to be.

We arrived last year after a long drive and found the host intoxicated. My wife and I were tired and just wanted to heat some soup, shower, and go to bed, but the host wouldn’t let us eat in our cabin even though it had a kitchenette. We felt extremely uncomfortable. We were the only guests, despite the property showing as fully booked online, and felt creeped out. We weren’t given a key and couldn’t lock the door from inside. We felt watched, and when we peeked through the window, we saw the host sitting at his window staring down at our cabin. We recorded it because we didn’t feel safe. It was dark and after 8 pm, with nowhere else to go. We tried calling other hotels but had no choice but to stay. We left promptly at 6 am the next morning. I wish we’d read the reviews before booking.

The place itself is lovely, but the guy was unfriendly and made us feel unwelcome. I wouldn’t recommend it, since there are plenty of other nice places to stay in CT with much friendlier staff. Stay away!
