Abel Tasman Caravan Park

We’ve stayed here before and enjoyed this visit too, even though I gave it four stars. The cabins are comfortable enough, though some are starting to feel old and tired. I love being so close to the ocean, and watching the Spirit of Tasmania come and go is great.

We found a spot at short notice and the campsite was spotless and tidy. Staff were friendly, and the other guests were respectful and well behaved. We’ll definitely come back.

The way we were treated left us feeling humiliated. We only drove briefly into the grounds to get a sense of their condition and cleanliness before deciding whether to book, but within minutes reception came over after long-term residents alerted them. We were treated like intruders, not possible guests. The staff were cold and condescending, and openly judged us. They told us backpackers weren’t welcome and linked them with being dirty and disrespectful, a sweeping insult. Nobody tried to hear us out, explain things, or show basic courtesy. It felt like a closed community where people are turned away based on assumptions instead of how they behave. If you don’t match their preferred profile, expect hostility rather than hospitality. The whole experience was unprofessional and doesn’t reflect respect or the values of tourism.

The bedding was crisp and clean, and the bed itself was fantastic. Our cabin was spotless, with all the kitchen facilities we needed, plus cozy heating and an extra space heater. Shani was so friendly and helpful. We had a great stay and will definitely be back! 👍👍👍
