Gladstone Backpackers

I’m so glad I came across Gladstone backpackers while travelling the east coast. The place has a great social atmosphere, and Bryn and the team were welcoming and accommodating. They cook a hostel dinner each night at a reasonable price, with really good food and portions. There’s QLD craft beer on tap, plus a pool table, darts and a swimming pool. The beds are comfy, and I’d personally suggest an A/C room if you can. Bathrooms and showers seemed decently clean, with hot water, and there’s a decent kitchen if you want to cook. The dogs, snake, turtle, bird and bearded dragon around the property added to the homey feel. Don’t skip this place if you’re travelling up or down the coast.

Every time I come up the east coast, I stay here. I love the hostel vibe, the staff, the pool and the lovely dogs. It’s great having a drink with everyone at the bar, with beers on tap and plenty of spirits. Big thanks to Bryn the manager, who’s always there to help. I’d recommend stopping here.

My partner and I had a private room with AC, though the bathroom is shared with everyone. That was fine, and I saw staff cleaning it each morning. The furnishings were clean, and we had no issues. It was very hot when we came in early Dec this year, so the AC was much appreciated. Brynn and the team were wonderful, with family dinners every night and activities that helped us meet other like-minded travelers in a new place. It’s a revolving team, and dinner at the hostel was cheap, around $5-15 depending on the menu. Brynn also had recommendations for food, places to visit and sightseeing.

The boss helped me find work when I was broke and had nowhere to go, which meant a lot. The people and the atmosphere were so sweet too. I had fun playing pool, making pizza and tacos, doing trivia and hanging out. It felt like being part of a big family, with joy all around. Such a great experience staying here!
