Browns at Broadbeach Motel

Browns on Broadbeach. Room 22 was so uninviting, my friends from New Zealand saw it the next morning and couldn’t believe what they were looking at. The room was crammed with furniture at the entrance. A bar fridge had a microwave balanced on it, with a jug and toaster on top of that. There were no kitchen facilities, yet a note on the wall said to wash your dishes, meaning you had to use the bathroom hand basin. Totally disgusting. Reception were hopeless. They said I could change rooms for more money. I told them that if I’d known what this room was like, I wouldn’t have come here.

I came from NZ and this was a horrible stay. Other tenants were loud and rude, with crying, screaming, arguments, and doors constantly slamming. There was drilling in the walls day and night, and no soundproofing. The cleaners were smug. The shower, Wi-Fi, and drinking water were all terrible. How this is allowed in Australia, I don’t know. I never thought it could be this bad. This place needs to be torn down. DO NOT STAY HERE, SAVE YOURSELF HELL!!!

You get only one towel per person, and they charge if you ask for another. Guests are expected to handwash and dry all cutlery and utensils after using them. The entrance area to our room had been turned into storage, with unused doors, tables, and chairs stacked beside the main door. The walls have no soundproofing at all, so even a neighbour sneezing can be heard, and there are no hallway lights. Other guests were rude and tried to look into our room. One pounded on our window and swore at us because we didn’t answer, shaking the whole wall. There are exposed pipes across the ceiling. Bath gel and shampoo come in small, inconvenient sachets that aren’t eco-friendly. The Wi-Fi is really poor, which the motel even says on the fridge door. The receptionist wouldn’t give us check-in details until close to check-in time, even though it was already check-in time and we just hadn’t arrived yet. I called five times and got an answer once. Not recommended!!

We stayed in room 9 for two nights in October. The location was perfect and the staff seemed nice. We’d come from central Qld for our grandbaby’s birth, so the room suited our purpose, but we’re really grossed out now. A doctor has told us the marks all over our bodies are bed bug bites, and we had to treat ourselves for lice and the bites. That means bugs were crawling on me, our teenage daughter, and our one-year-old grandchild. We saw lots of roaches and bugs during the stay and didn’t worry too much at the time, since it’s Qld in summer. Yuk!!!
