Koko Broadbeach

On our first night, while we were asleep, security unlocked our room and let strangers in. One stood in the bedroom doorway. This was a serious failure of guest safety and access control, not a mix-up at reception. Security came back later to question us about the booking, and management was hard to reach and dismissive. Queensland Fair Trading got involved. Management formally agreed to refund two nights, but more than a month later, the refund still hadn’t been processed. The breach and the response showed a lack of safety, accountability, and basic business integrity. We trusted this accommodation with our personal security, and that trust was broken. I’d think carefully before staying here. If something goes wrong, don’t count on urgency, transparency, or follow-through.

The apartment was spacious, quiet, and very nice, with a great balcony and view. The location is also great, but we’ll stay somewhere else next time because the service was so poor. The lifts were out for over 24 hours, with barely any updates and no one at reception for much of that time. Staff had gone home by 7pm Sunday, leaving residents with only a small generic note and no idea how long the problem would take to fix. Walking to and from level 25 like that was frustrating. The room was sparsely stocked, too. There wasn’t even a tissue box, and we got one sachet of washing liquid for a five day stay.

The apartment was a good size and the location was my one positive. The car park entrances and exit are very narrow and badly designed, and I scraped my beautiful car getting in and out. If you have a beautiful car, beware. The pool area was unpleasant, with the wind howling through from the south east. The pool is 1.1 metres deep, and the bottom step is about half a metre down, which I imagine would be difficult for an older person. There’s no spa, sauna, or steam room either. That’s where the positives end for me.

We had a two bedroom apartment overlooking the beach for an extended weekend. It suited us perfectly, with clean, modern facilities. Broadbeach is right there, from the beach to the cafes, restaurants, and Pacific Fair. Service is limited, but the staff are friendly when reception is open.
