Oaks Gold Coast Hotel

I booked this for a work trip because my staff and I often stay with Oaks, but this was by far my worst experience with the brand. The property feels seriously outdated and poorly maintained, and I don’t think it deserves a 4-star rating. My room smelled strongly of drugs when I arrived. Cockroaches became more numerous as we stayed, there was visible mould, and cleanliness was unacceptable. The fridge and washing machine were unsanitary, and the basement car park smelled strongly of sewage. My colleagues’ room had similar problems, including poop smeared on the toilet wall. What bothered me most was the response to complaints. I saw a woman who had just checked in show reception pictures of someone’s faeces in the spa bath before her arrival. Staff didn’t offer a refund, another room, or to clean it. After that, I didn’t report our own problems. It seemed clear nothing would be done, and during peak season we had no hope of finding another hotel. I usually trust Oaks for work travel, but we’re done with this property. It’s far below standard and completely unsuitable for business customers. I strongly recommend booking elsewhere. What a waste of energy and money.

The room and view are good value, and the location is OK, but the service and amenities were very poor. The hotel advertises wifi, yet it didn’t work. When I complained, staff acted as if I was lying, even though they knew some rooms often have issues. There were cockroaches in the room as well, but after the wifi response I didn’t bother reporting them. I didn’t think anyone would do anything. For a holiday I wouldn’t have cared as much, but I wouldn’t have booked for work if I’d known there was no working wifi. I won’t use Oaks for work again, and recommend others avoid it too.

We had a lovely two-night stay. The pool and spa were nice, and the staff were fantastic. The location is great, near the tram and just a short walk from cafes. My fiance forgot our anniversary, which gave the reception staff a laugh after I’d mentioned it to them. There’s no cafe or restaurant in the hotel, but one is only a short walk away. We’ll definitely be back 😊
