Ocean Royale

I should have read the negative reviews before booking. This family holiday was meant to be enjoyable, but the stay was deeply unpleasant. The place didn’t look like the photos, felt unsafe and unclean, and the staff were awful. I checked out feeling like I’d need to go home and clean myself thoroughly. Sheets and towels were stained, there was hair in the bathroom and dirt in the bathtub, brown stains on the carpet, and food still on the cutlery. The aircon didn’t work, so the room felt like a sauna and made us lethargic. We couldn’t open the windows for fresh air because the lock was seized up. When we handed in the keys, staff wanted us to pay for maintenance and threatened to leave a bad review on booking.com if we didn’t pay.

We had a one-bedroom apartment with a TV and fan in the bedroom, but no aircon there. The lounge did have air conditioning. The beach view was great, though the building isn’t beachfront. Security was good. There’s an outdoor pool, a heated indoor pool and spa, separate saunas for men and women, and a tennis court.

We spent five nights here and left disappointed. The unit smelled bad around the sink and its drain, there was hair throughout, and the cutlery and plates weren't clean. The bed had a split mattress that looked like it might not have been replaced in 20 years. We had already paid a cleaning fee, so an email saying we had to clean or face extra charges was frustrating. The room was far too expensive for its standard. I wouldn't stay again, and especially wouldn't bring children.

Amber at reception made us feel welcome and was so helpful throughout our stay. We also appreciated being able to check in early and leave late, which made everything more relaxed. Ocean Royale has an incredible ocean view, and waking up to it each morning was a highlight. We loved our visit and would happily stay again or recommend it to anyone after a comfortable, scenic getaway.
