San Mateo on Broadbeach

The location was the only good part, with the beach and apartment pool both a two-minute walk away. We stayed in Unit 518 for eight nights over Christmas and arrived on Christmas Day. We knew staffing might be limited, but there was practically no reception service the whole time. Calls to the intercom number went unanswered many times, and when different people did respond briefly, the connection kept cutting out. I finally got frustrated and gave my phone number when someone answered the intercom, and she called back so we could collect the key. I also had to read my full credit card details loudly over the intercom because she said she couldn't hear me. About half a metre of our assigned parking space was taken up by surfboards and two bicycles. With an SUV, parking was extremely difficult, and I kept worrying about hitting them while reversing. Basic supplies, including tea, coffee, toilet paper, dishwashing liquid, laundry powder, and shampoo, were provided for the first day only. Nothing was replenished, so we had to buy everything for the rest of the stay. We found several cockroaches even though we never opened the balcony door, and couldn't tell where they were coming from. The bedroom light didn't work, and the ensuite toilet had no exhaust fan. On the last day, the HVAC started leaking and flooded part of the apartment. We had to switch off the air conditioning overnight to prevent more water damage, which was far from ideal.
