We spent three wonderful days at The Boathouse Retreat, a lovely quiet spot for unwinding. There's lots to do around Goolwa, with wineries, breweries, restaurants and cafes. We also drove to Lake Breeze Winery near Langhorne Creek and enjoyed their wine and food. Worth the trip.

This time we stayed at Captain’s Retreat with friends, after visiting the Boathouse Retreat on our first trip. We had a great time relaxing and enjoying the facilities. The setting above the Murray River is beautiful, and if you're lucky you might get a boat trip; otherwise, having sundowners by the water is lovely. Wendy & Phil were helpful and knew so much about the area, where there's plenty to see and do. A really wonderful experience.

Those local breakfast treats made our stay feel extra special: bread, orange juice, cereal and jams, all sourced locally. It was such a peaceful, beautiful experience, and we were amazed by how thoughtfully everything was provided. Thank you, we'll definitely recommend it.

We stayed here while road-tripping through Goolwa, and Wendy and Phillip were lovely hosts. The location and ambiance were superb. I'd highly recommend it for a relaxing break.

Relaxing beside the Murray River in an original river boat captain's house made for an incredible stay at The Captains Retreat at Birks Harbour. The decor and the supplies in the fridge show just the right attention to detail.
