The Ashwood Motel

The servicing staff were very helpful, and there was plenty of tea, coffee, sugar and milk for both of us. We were travelling with a group, but staying four nights while everyone else had two. Booking staff put us in an end unit, which I thought was considerate and helped keep noise down. Most units have free parking right outside. A couple of small things could’ve been better: the tiled floors left our feet black, so they hadn’t been washed well, and the shower conditioner was running low when we arrived. Both are easy fixes.

Friendly staff, and it was quiet. The pool was clean too. For a 3 star place, it’s great: comfortable bed, clean linen, and nice tiled floors throughout. The bathroom was tidy, and the room had air conditioning, a bar fridge, kettle, microwave and Foxtel TV.

I expected more for $179 a night. The room had a strong bleach smell when we arrived, and the tiled floor throughout was dirty and sticky. The shower could’ve been cleaner too. During our stay, a cockroach came out from under the pillows.

The location’s central, the staff are friendly, the outside is well kept, and it’s a short walk to the RSL. But the room smelled like rotten milk, and we found milk stains on the carpet near the fridge. We had to buy a candle just to sleep there. The shower pressure was awful, the towels smelled like they’d been stored for years, and the mattress sagged like a hammock. There were also splatters on the wall, and I don’t even want to guess what they were. This place has potential, but it needs a makeover. We won’t be back.
