Pinnacle Holiday Lodge

There was nobody at reception at check-in or check-out, just keys left out. The aircon leaked onto the kitchen table, only a few centimetres from the wall lamp. If I didn’t want to use it, the alternative was a filthy ventilator covered in black dust. The room smelled musty and mouldy, and my bath towel stank. Someone seemed to have smeared dirt over the bathroom mirror, and there was an old soap bar left in the shower, which has no holder. The bathroom cabinet wood was crumbling and wobbly. At least there wasn’t obvious black mould in the bathroom this time, as there had been on my previous visit. The pool room still had dead, dry plants sitting around, with no sign anyone planned to do anything about them. The freezer was unusable because of the ice buildup, and even the dishes weren’t stacked neatly, which made me think they hadn’t been washed. It felt as if the place might be run by completely unskilled and exploited people. I won’t stay again. es

This resort means a lot to me, which makes the state of it especially disappointing. The place itself has potential, but needs a lot of care, maintenance and gardening. I don’t see it moving in the right direction under the current management, and it needs new management. When we arrived, they asked us to pay even though we’d already paid when booking over the phone. Thankfully, Hubby showed the payment confirmation. Management didn’t apologize. Whenever we asked for coffee, towels or loo paper refills, the response felt like, “What do you want now?” They didn’t look like management, wearing trackie dacks and a dressing gown with no name tags. It felt like they were tourists and we were an inconvenience for asking for ordinary things. After I posted a review on the third day, the pair of them harassed me to delete it. I did, just to stop them carrying on, but now I’m saying how it really was. They should have taken my first review seriously. She spends her time walking around on her phone like a tourist instead of looking after an important part of the Grampians. I’d never stay there again while these people are managing it. They didn’t even know what a “Cocky” is. 😔

We were happy with our one-night weekend stay. The room was dated, but comfortable and, most importantly, clean. The owner made us feel welcome, even though our room wasn't ready when we arrived. We went into town and enjoyed a wine or two at The Grampians Cellar while we waited. You can walk to just about everything The Gap has to offer from this spot. It's a good, honest property, and we'd stay again.

Halls Gap centre is an easy walk away, and there were kangaroos nearby. The room wasn't ready at check-in; reception said it would take 5-10 minutes. When I finally got in, though, there was a really bad smell. The rooms are very basic and need a thorough clean. Staff should make sure the smell is dealt with and that rooms are ready for a smooth check-in.
