Mountain View Holiday Retreat

We thought we were booking a bungalow, but ended up in a shared space with a public kitchen and living room. It felt more like a hostel than a private retreat. The room we got also didn’t match the listing: we expected a private, comfortable space with queen beds, but got a basic room with bunks instead. The bathroom and kitchen faucets were poorly designed too. Water spilled out around the sides instead of flowing properly. We were very disappointed with the stay, which fell short of what the listing led us to expect.

I’m very unhappy about the cancellation. I booked for July 2025 in late January and got confirmation, but in late April, nearly three months later, the host/owner cancelled. They said a group booking from the previous year hadn’t been saved in the system, so my confirmed reservation conflicted with theirs and they cancelled mine to fit in the group. I’d booked early to avoid problems during the busy school holidays, when places are notoriously hard to find. Now there’s less time and fewer options, and I’m left in a difficult spot.

The place was clean, well equipped, and the sheets and towels were clean too. We got a warm welcome, and the tips were handy. For three people staying two nights, it was the best offer we could find, and the location was great. I just wish there’d been somewhere to cook. They do have a BBQ, but no cooking space, and breakfast could have been more balanced since it was mostly cereal and toast.

The rooms were heated on the cold nights, the beds were soft, and breakfast items were always stocked. The place was very clean. The owners were super friendly and helpful to my group and me, and knew lots about the area and Mt Hotham. They went out of their way for us. I’d highly recommend staying here and will come back when we’re in the area again.
