We stayed with a group of friends, and everyone had a lovely time. There was plenty of space to relax, beautiful surroundings, and easy access to Hervey Bay’s attractions. It’s also family friendly, with good nearby options for kids, while still feeling peaceful for adults. Sanctuary Lakes is close to the main attractions, so exploring doesn’t mean long drives. The lakes, birdlife, resident ducks and turtles make the setting feel like a real sanctuary, and it’s easy to slow down and feel comfortable and safe. Deb and Rod were wonderful hosts. Their warmth, professionalism and attention to detail made us feel cared for from the moment we arrived. You can tell a lot of care goes into keeping this welcoming place in good shape. It feels like somewhere to relax and reconnect. Highly recommended for families, couples, friends and anyone after a peaceful getaway that’s still conveniently located in Hervey Bay.

The room smelled when we entered, and it felt dirty enough that I couldn’t eat there. There were no blinds on the windows, the smoke detector was hanging from the roof, and the lounge had huge rips. Half the utensils were missing, and the ones left were filthy. We raised it with management, but they offered no compensation and only hung sheets up with bulldog clips. I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

We spent a week here as a family of five, spread across three villas, and they suited our needs perfectly. The outlook was peaceful, with the sights and sounds of nature around us. Deb & Rob were attentive, responsive hosts who helped with the logistics and booked us a beautiful day tour to K’gari. Such an unexpected accommodation gem in Hervey Bay.

The cabins were spotless, with each one looking directly over the lake. We enjoyed sitting out on the deck, watching the many birds and turtles, and found the kitchen well stocked with pots, plates and other things. Bring your own food. The hosts were friendly and quick to respond. We stayed three nights and wished we could’ve stayed much longer, it’s an amazing spot close to everything.

The villas were gorgeous, clean and relaxing, and we had a great time in the pool. Our group loved taking morning walks around the lake and seeing the cute turtles and ducks. Deb and Rod made us feel so welcome. Such a lovely stay at Sanctuary Lakes Fauna Retreat!
