Hobart's Accommodation & Hostel

The kitchen had what I needed, and the place was clean and quiet. Staff were really nice, friendly and helpful. The only issue was the shower room light, which switches on and off automatically. If you’re in there for a while at night, it might go dark before you’re done, which could be scary if you’re afraid of the dark. Otherwise I had no issues and would recommend this place to a friend.

I shared a ladies dorm over four days, and everyone respected each other’s privacy and need for sleep. The room was ready for me and good value for the price. Everyone was friendly and considerate, and staff were helpful throughout my stay.

The owner was friendly and accommodating, and easy to approach the couple of times we dealt with him. The location was excellent, far enough out to avoid the traffic and noise but still close enough that I didn’t have to walk miles or drive everywhere. The room was small, as you’d expect in a hostel, but I paid $64 for a private double with a tiny bathroom, and after staying there I felt that was too much for the quality. There’s no hostel parking, so street parking added up. The free WiFi had no signal in the room, and the toilet seat was a little dicky, moving around while in use. The shower kept cutting in and out, making it unpleasant. Cleaning wasn’t great either: the sheets smelled like old lady perfume, there was used soap with other people’s hair in the shower, dust and dirt under the bed, and the small heater smelled when switched on because dust was caked on it. A lovely skylight was the room’s only natural light, but its blinds wouldn’t shut properly and let in the early morning light. I’d requested a quiet room when booking, but barely slept because people in the next room made noise through the night and early morning. Overall, I wasn’t impressed with the hostel. There’s a lot of room for improvement.

Tony, the host, was amazing, so helpful, polite and welcoming. The room was clean and comfortable, the kitchen well supplied, and the common space was lovely, clean and well maintained. The whole place felt quiet and comfortable. I’ll be honest, I was skeptical at first, but that turned out to be misplaced. For a private room at this price, it’s so much better than the competitors. I’d highly recommend it.
