The Nook Backpackers

We stayed in room 11, a private double, which gave us the privacy we wanted at a budget price while still letting us meet people in the shared areas. The lounge is cosy and homey, almost like sitting in a cafe, but with much more space. The kitchen has what you need for a simple meal, and I liked how carefully they sort recycling, even bottle lids separately. The food labels they provide are really useful. After parking in the Nook's car park, lovely Anna checked us in many hours early. We may have been lucky that the room was free from the night before, but she was kind to offer it. And she can sing! The room was great, and we even got towels, body wash, shampoo, and biscuits, more than I expected from a backpackers. We'll definitely recommend a stay here and come back if we get the chance.

The private room was surprisingly good for a 2 star hostel, and a nice choice if you want your own space. The walls are thin, but our neighbours were considerate and quiet. In four nights we met a diverse group of lovely people, and the warm, comfortable atmosphere made us feel welcome. The staff are very friendly too. You're right in the city, with some great restaurants an easy walk away. We loved staying here and will choose it again next time we're in Hobart.

The staff are lovely, and the shared spaces are good. I was in a room with quite a few people; the layout was partly divided, which helped, but there was just one plug and the beds made a lot of noise. On the top bunk, I would have liked a reading light and somewhere small to put my things. The WiFi barely reached my bed, which was annoying. The centre of Hobart is within walking distance.

I spent a week in an all-female dorm and it was an okay stay. The price was fair, the kitchen well equipped, the hall nice, and the bathrooms were always clean. The staff were friendly at first, but ownership changed in the final days. The new staff are very young and can be a bit unsocial. Sometimes I'd say hi and get no reply :))) Still, they were nice and helpful overall. The sheets they gave me weren't fresh and smelled, thankfully I'd brought my own. And there were ants everywhere in the kitchen, so I couldn't leave groceries out. The hall furniture was dusty and not very clean.
