The Pickled Frog - Hostel

I planned to stay three days, but a change to my trip turned that into three weeks. Having my own room while still getting the hostel atmosphere, activities, and chance to meet people was great. Kel helped set up soccer games every other week and made the place feel welcoming. Spikes trivia was top notch, and karaoke on my last night was a fitting send-off. The events were fun and got people involved. It felt a bit like a college dorm, with well-traveled neighbors who had a bit more maturity. The kitchen is small and storage gets tight when it's full, but the atmosphere is top notch. I'd absolutely come back whenever I'm in Tasmania.

The Pickled Frog is the best hostel I've stayed at in Aus by far. The staff are kind and funny, and the several weekly events actually make it easy to meet people. There's lots to do in the inviting common room. The facilities could use some improvement, though that's what I'd expect in a hostel with so many guests. The location is handy too, near the CBD but far enough away to avoid the busy feel.

I've stayed in dozens of hostels, but this one has stayed with me. The old building has a warmth to it, and staff remembering my name each morning made a difference. I felt safe sinking into the couch among travellers carrying their own stories and scars. One evening we traded travel tales in the common room. Someone called it a pause button in life, a safe place before the next chapter. I felt that deeply. If a bed isn't all you're after and you want connection, comfort, and a cosy atmosphere, this place has it.

The Pickled Frog didn't disappoint. People gather every night to watch movies or TV in the cosy living room, play board games, or shoot pool. It's lively and social without getting loud or obnoxious. Everyone is lovely, and it's easy to feel at home and make great connections. The hostel is only minutes on foot from the CBD and a fantastic rivulet walk filled with platypus. Thanks to the amazing staff. If I'm in Hobart again, I know where I'm staying.
