I’ve stayed at Sandholme several times for a relaxing break from Sydney, and it’s become a home away from home. Alan and Christine are lovely hosts who really care about the local area. The purpose-built guest house has a relaxed feel, with personal touches in the gardens, furniture and artwork. I’ve stayed in the ground-floor Oriental room and enjoyed a few games of pool in the lounge. Breakfast is delicious, with options for different tastes and dietary needs. I’d recommend Sandholme to travellers of any age.

We booked three nights and ended up staying five. Nothing seemed too much trouble, even helping us with a terrapin we found washed up on Huskisson Beach after a walk. Alan and Chris are warm, friendly hosts who can advise on local attractions and places to eat. The fresh-to-order breakfast menu is generous, and I recommend the Stone Grill. Sandholme is ideally placed, far enough from town to feel away from it all but still an easy walk to the beach, shops and restaurants. The house is airy and spacious, with a bathroom for each guest room. It was purpose-designed and built, on a site with family history going back to a holiday cottage built in 1957. Take time to explore the house and gardens. Alan or Chris will happily show you the furniture, artifacts and artwork, each with a story, many connected to their family history.

Sandholme is spacious, comfortable and well maintained. It sits beside a bush reserve, where you can wake to the kookaburras’ familiar song, and it’s a short walk to Jervis Bay beaches and Moona Moona Creek.

This rambling period-style house has all the facilities you could want and an exquisite eye for detail. I wish we could’ve stayed a few more days.

The accommodation is kept to a high standard, and the owners and managers are lovely.
