Kyabram Motor Inn

After 40 years of travelling, this is the cleanest motel I’ve ever stayed in anywhere. I’ve only written three reviews in all that time, so there’s no need for me to go through the usual boxes. Consider them all ticked.

The room had clean sheets and towels, a comfortable bed, and a nice colour scheme. I appreciated the luggage rack, and the dishes, tea towels and microwave made it feel like there was a kitchenette. The air conditioning seemed okay. But at $140 a night, it was very poor value. The pool was filthy in 35C heat, the yard was dirty, and outside tiles were falling off the walls. Inside, it looked as if it was cleaned daily, but only lightly. It was grubby, with very worn, torn, scuffed and dirty furniture that should go to the tip. The chairs had layers of dust, grime was embedded around the plugs and walls, the bed ruffle was grubby, and there was no bathroom sink. The room smelled a little stale, and the torn fly wire door let bugs in. Check-in was just for payment, with no host there. The Wi-Fi instructions were a bit unclear. I tried to move after checking in but couldn’t.

The carpet in my room was soaked, and the smell was awful. When I told the woman at reception, she said to put towels down and turn on the heating, and that I’d be fine. They offered no other solution or apology, so I left the motel that night. I had to call 'Kyabram Country Motel' down the road and book a room there. They were AMAZING, highly recommended.

Really nice motel. Very quiet.
