Crystal Bay on the Broadwater

The Crystal Bay Apartments matched the photos. They were roomy, tidy, and had everything we needed, including a washer so we could do our own laundry. The staff were very helpful, and the location was great for restaurants and sightseeing. Highly recommended!

We’d planned to stay just one night a few weeks ago, but the place was so wonderful that we stayed another. There’s a great pool open until 9:30pm, which is rare, and a spa for an after-dinner dip. The rooms were nice with a good view, the staff were friendly, and the location was great. We’ll definitely stay here again.

The location was great, but room 510 was badly dated and had cleaning issues: marks on the walls, a broken toilet seat, mould on the bathroom blind and green mould in the shower silicone. The old innerspring mattress was really uncomfortable. We came from NZ, and although the website says the unit has everything you need, we only got two towels, so bring extras. During our two-week stay it was serviced after a week, but the shower and toilet weren't cleaned. Noisy neighbours kept waking us by slamming their door.

The view and location were the only real highlights. We expected a bit of luxury from a penthouse, but the apartment was run down, dusty and marked up, with stains on the curtains, lounge and much of the furniture. The spa bath broke while we were using it and wasn't repaired during our stay. Several things needed attention: nonworking light switches, TV remotes with dead batteries, a broken main bedroom door, loose bathroom taps and no working exhaust fans. The top-floor balcony rail was loose too, which felt like a serious safety concern. As a family hoping for a special, slightly luxurious stay, we were disappointed. We wouldn't book the penthouse again.
