Leigh Creek Outback Resort

We stopped for dinner at the pub. The service was friendly, and the meals were straightforward pub fare at a reasonable price. The campground itself was great and the amenities were clean. We'll keep it in mind as a place to stop when we're up this way again.

There's so much history here, and we found it really relaxing. The tavern had amazing food, cold drinks and plenty to choose from. The owners, staff and locals make the visit worthwhile. This is a former mining town going through a big transition into a resort, with heaps to do around the area and Maree just up the road. Whether you're heading onto or coming off the Oodnadatta track, it's a great place to stay in a caravan, cabin or motel. We really enjoyed our stay. Don't hesitate, just get up and go!

We stayed one night on the way to Farina, then another before heading back to Adelaide. We tried driving to Aroona dam, but our regular sedan wasn't suited to the long, rough road, so we turned back. The TV reception was excellent, with lots of channels to watch at night, and there was talk of an upgrade for our next stay. We were a bit disgruntled to be directed to the caravan park units because we had our small, well-trained non-shedding poodle with us. Still, the facilities were clean and hard to fault, the tavern food was good, and the self-serve breakfast setup had a microwave, toaster, kettle and plenty of teabags.

Calling this a resort stretches the truth a lot. It's just a group of worn-out workers' cabins, and the place looks shabby. The carpets were filthy, the door and window frames were rotting and falling apart, and the building is clad in asbestos. At a quarter of the price, it might be reasonable.
