New Olympic Motel

I stayed five nights, and my room wasn’t cleaned once. The bin was overflowing, so I had to ask for it to be emptied and for fresh towels. The room itself was okay and had what I needed. Great location, with lots of parking, including undercover spots. It seems the motel is also used by homeless people. Since the floods it’s under new management, and the service is non-existent.

We’d booked a ground-floor room online and had also emailed and called to make sure, since my wife uses a walker and can’t manage stairs. They gave us the wrong room, then argued that moving us to a ground-floor unit would cost extra. We refused to pay more, and eventually got another room. It was really disappointing. There were no towels, soap, or milk, just one packet of biscuits for the two of us, and used shampoo bottles had been left in the shower.

The room smelled strongly of old sheets. The bedding looked fresh, but the mattress had stains that looked like urine and blood. There was mouldy food in the microwave, mould in the shower, and poo in the toilet. On arrival the staff were very blunt and rude, and the queen room quoted at 99 on the phone became 130 in person. Absolutely disgusting. I’d never recommend this motel or stay here again.

We were told the price would go up next year, so we’ll look elsewhere next time. Our stay over New Year was basically fine, though the rooms could have been cleaner. We left a do-not-disturb sign up, but staff still came in and made up the room, which was a minor privacy concern. The BBQ was clean and worked well. Our friends had checked in more than an hour before being asked to change rooms. It ended up being more of a demand than a question, and was inconvenient, though the owners tried to help where they could. They’d only taken over that week, so there were likely some handover or settling-in issues.
