Hotel Ibis Mackay

I was only there for about six hours after coming straight from work: shower, sleep, then off to catch my flight. Afterward I was charged $9.13 for chips I never ate. I called and was told they’d investigate and call me back, but heard nothing. It’s a bloody joke to take my money for something I didn’t touch. Fair enough if I’d eaten them. Check-in also took 45 minutes.

The staff were great, and the attached restaurant is good. It’s a very handy spot for the airport, about a two-minute walk from the terminal. The rooms are small, though. The beds are too soft, and the mattresses need turning. It feels like your feet are higher than your head, and the beds move when you get in and out. As a CPAP user, I could just fit my machine on the shelf beside the bed. There weren’t enough spare pillows. It was comfortable enough overall.

The beds are excellent, the rooms are great, and you can’t hear aircraft. Meals are really good too, and the staff are awesome. Sometimes the place still feels like a mining camp. A QR code ordering option might help anyone who finds it hard to order from a menu.

It’s a convenient spot when you need to catch a flight, with fast Wi-Fi, clean rooms and excellent air conditioning. I also had a quiet place to get work done without interruptions. The downstairs bar has great food, and there’s a Red Rooster across in the airport if you need it. Pool and gym access is easy, and there’s enough for a quick workout: dumbbells, a walker and a bike.
