The Metropolitan Hotel

The food platters at The Bistro were huge and fresh, and Heather, the event planner, helped us every step of the way. We were very happy with The Met as the venue for our private function. The staff were organised, helpful, and gave us great advice. We’d book again, 100%.

The location was convenient for shops and other amenities, though there wasn’t much of a view. The air conditioning worked fine, and the bathroom was clean and tidy. The shower was especially good for someone tall like me. I didn’t use the in-house bar or dining facilities, so can’t comment on them. I stayed one night after arriving from the airport. The bed was spacious and comfortable, but it sat on four wheels and moved away from the wall easily, which made watching TV while sitting up a bit awkward. I also noticed there was no secondary door latch. Some guests might prefer a deadbolt or chain, though the specialty key did offer some reassurance about security. I had no issues and would stay again.

The Parma and schnitzel were dry. Although I told the woman taking orders three times that I wanted mashed potatoes and vegetables, one meal came with chips and salad instead, and the drinks were wrong too. The Bistro was clean when I visited on a Tuesday night, and the meal was otherwise okay.

We stopped here overnight on our drive from Brisbane to mareeba. The kids really liked the spaghetti at the pub downstairs, and we had steak and parmy for dinner. There’s even a round pool table. Our room was really nice, with good beds, a bathroom, kitchen, and lounge room.
